The Human Ego

I'm not sure I should be writing this post, but I want to, because that's why I write. Things I can't say, I write. You may not like it, you may not have the same opinion as me, but that's ok. We live in a free country and we all have our own little voice. If you feel like this post is directed to you, it does not mean I do not like you, it does not mean I think I'm better then you, it just means I have an opinion, and it's probably not even about you. I'm sorry if you don't like it, then again, I'm not sorry. You have been warned, you decide to keep reading or not.

...

Lately, after many heated discussions about regionals, I have seen, heard and saw people's egos go over the top. And when one persons ego goes over the top, it is usually followed by many other egos. I don't know what it is, but it's like that. But let me tell you, egos breaking loose is one hell of a scary thing!

Experience is a very important thing, I know that. But there is a difference between being ready because of experience and just the experience. Do you see the difference? Having the experience and getting the experience. Here's my explanation to clear things up a bit...

The first one, having the experience #1, means for example: competing at local competitions throughout the summer, the fall and winter, no matter what competition it is; the Adonix local or the Firebreather, individual or team competition. It also means competing RX at these competitions. It's getting your ass kicked and getting stronger because of that. It's getting your ass kicked and getting back up by training harder, working harder, playing less and being serious about crossfit, about training, about nutrition, about competing. It's getting your ass kicked in the open and knowing that you have to change things up in your training. This experience is knowing if you can compete in the big league or not (AKA the regionals). It's with this experience that you know you should or you shouldn't compete. It's with this experience that you become a better athlete, a better mentally prepared athlete for when times get rough. That is important experience.

Then there's the other experience #2 which is also very important. The experience of a life time. YOLO. Having an opportunity to send people at regionals. Proving too many people wrong. Getting a T-shirt. Having your name on a team. Making it big. Being on the floor with so many other teams, individuals that are at the top of their form. Being at the olympics for the first time, not expecting much, but being there with all the cameras, all the pressure, all the fans. Having that experience in your pocket makes you more experienced then most.

Afterwards, either you fail to continue because you are discouraged by what you have not accomplished or it helps you grow and become better, stronger, faster, fitter. But that all depends on how our personalities are built, doesn't it?

But the most important thing, when you experience number #2 is that you NEED to know that you are ready, you need to know what to expect before competing. You cannot go get that experience being ignorant. Not only that, but most importantly, you need to believe that everything you've done, all the training, all the work, all the efforts, all the things you had to give up for training was well worth it. And this isn't just in the one month before competition... This is a year of preparation, of training, of hours spent in the gym working on weaknesses and more. You need to trust in yourself, but you need to trust in your team, whoever they are. You need to believe that your going to make it to day three. You can't go to regionals expecting to fail. Confidence is crucial.  And being able to accomplish such experience comes with having experience #1 under the belt...

Because if you're not ready, then the odds are, you will find another hobby. And that would suck.

I don't know if I cleared things up, or fucked peoples minds. All I know is that there are pros and cons and people need to see both sides. And peoples egos need to take it down a notch, for real. Regionals aren't a fun place to be when you're not ready. Regionals is not a walk in the park. Regionals is where you find the best athletes in the world after the Games. Regionals are not a joke.

So if you think you're ready for regionals, then go. Go all out! But go there ready to fight, go there being proud of what you have done to get there. Go there, to be the best version of yourself. Go there to show people what you're made of. Go there to prove so many people wrong. Go to regionals to kick ass. Go to regionals head first. Go to regionals knowing that your training has been efficient. Go to regionals because you worked your ass off to get there.

But please, do not go to regionals if you don't think you can do it. Do not go to regionals because it's cool to go to regionals, you're just going to get hurt and look stupid. Do not go to regionals for experience number 2. Do not go to regionals because you have an ego. Do not go to regionals to impress others, because you will not. Do not go to regionals for the glory, because you will crash. Do not go to regionals for a T-shirt, that's just douchy.

No matter what, I am still YUL's number one fan, and will support the decisions, the team, the athletes, the whole shabam. I just thought it would be nice to know both sides. I seem to have difficulty expressing this when I am speaking english... It must be my french.  Now please, don't stop talking to me because I have a different opinion then you... I probably still love you very much, and I hope you still love me to!

Go on... Prove me wrong.
