First bike ride of the season

Ok, this is a little story, keep reading, it get's really intense and adventurous.

So, my friend Patty and I workout together once in while at this crossfit gym, Reebok crossfit YUL.
We usually take the car to go there, I mean if we would live close by we'd probably take our feet and walk there or even bike there, but we take the highway to get there, and it's 20 minutes away. It's not that far, but considering we need to take the highway for 20minutes, it's pretty far, but totally worth it! Everytime I walk out of that gym, I feel so damm good! I feel like all my meaness has left my body, not that i'm mean or anything, just that sometimes, you need to get it all out, you know!

Anywho, the point of my story here, is that patty and I are intense girls. We like it rough! hahahaha. We are ladies who love to workout, who love muscle, who are never satisfied with a good workout. We always find another way of making it harder. There are no excuses. And nothing can stop us... maybe just some mascara running down our faces... you'll get the joke later... keep reading!

I suggested to patty one day that this summer we should definatly try biking to the gym. You know on a warm sunny summer day. And I would've already had done a couple of bike rides this summer. Because 40km, there and back, isn't that bad, the bad part is that were working out in between. Wait, were doing crossfit in between. Did I mention that everytime I do crossfit, I somehow can't breathe at some point in my workout?! No, oh my bad.

So, april ended last week, and they were calling for awesome plus 10 tempatures all week, for the first week of may.  Warm sunshine all week. That's what they said. Truly what happened is that it rained most of the week, and it was pretty cold, like 7-8 degrees all week. But as being Patty, means being really optimistic, so she said: "KAG, check out the tempature for thursday were biking to the gym". And as Kag, I don't really care, so I went on with the idea, that we were going to try this bike ride. Hey, the weather network said 22 degrees, with sunshine, not a cloud in the sky!  I'm down with that! Guess what! it was grey all day calling for rain at night... our workout was at 7PM...

Patty, always excited about this bike ride... me not, picked me up at 5:30 and we left her house at 5:50. I had my phone, for directions, and help in case we got super lost or ended up in a ditch, I had food for energy, I had money, if at some point I was ready to call a taxi and go home and cry. I was ready for the ride. Wait, no, I wasn't that ready, I did not bring a rain coat.

We start biking, 3 minutes later, both of us get rain drops on our faces. That's sweet, we can still go back and get the car and go. But hey, we are WARRIORS. Nothing can stop us. Then Patty's like: "Shit, I have mascara on... is it leaking? " "No, no it's not, let's keep going!"

We were off, for one hell of a bike ride.

So, it started raining, then we got lost, and did a huge detour, like 5 km... that's alot. Got back on track. We were following the  highway, on the service road. Now technically the service road's limit is 50 km/hour. And I mean it is, if a cop is gunning and you're going 70km/h, then you get a ticket. But let me tell you this, I live in Montreal, we are all crazy ass drivers! Like insane drivers. Like fast, stupid drivers, I could even put it that way. Like really crazy. I don't think you realise it until you become the cyclist. People were going by us so freaking fast, it was scary.

I've done stupid stuff on my bike, like bike to school on the service road, a bunch of times, but this, holy! It doesn't even compare. Shit, we were biking, under the rain, at 30 km/h, cars were passing us at 100km/h, and 18 wheeler trucks were roaring right next to us!!! I just wanted it to end. The gym seemed further then usual...

Now, you know how service roads are done, you always have exits and entrances to the highway. Well as a cyclist that wants to go straight, it's not always easy, if you know what I mean. Cars are big machines, and they go fast, and people think they're alone on the road. Oh helllll no, we were there, biking.

Anyways, I think you can picture it.

We were almost there, and I think our minds weren't thinking probably, because there was so much adrenaline running through our bodies, that at some point Patty said we had to go left... Left was the highway.

Biking on the highway is illegal by the way.

We made it safe, and as I re-read my post, it doesn't sound that dangerous, but honestly, it's probably the most dangerous bike ride of my life. And the more I think about it, I don't think I've EVER seen anybody ride their bikes on the service road... Like not one soul has ever been stupid enough to do it.

Now, we took our precautions, we really did, we were safe, I can't speek for the automobilists, but as for us, we were smart and safe!! Good Job Patty!

For the ride back, imagine, the same situation without the rain, but add darkness... haha!

What an experience! Totally going to have to find a safer way to make it there! Makes it challenging to bike to the gym, workout and bike back!

Now Under Armour challenged me to workout twice during the same 24hour period. I think I just workout 4 times in the same 24 hour period. Gym at 7 in the morning, 20km bike ride, crossfit workout, and a sweet 20km ride back home.

Did I mention I was starving?

Peace out!

spread the love
